Many people discover numerous trailer “lots” in their area when searching for a cargo trailer. While this may seem like the most convenient option for buying a trailer, that convenience often comes with many other unpredictable costs. In today’s post, we’ll review the benefits of choosing a factory direct cargo trailer.
Buying a ready-made trailer from a lot can come with a few drawbacks. Although they may be able to find exactly what they’re looking for, in many cases customers have very specific needs for their cargo trailer–needs that may have to be sacrificed to buy something off the lot the same day.
In addition to limited options, buying off the lot also means a higher price tag. In most cases, trailer dealerships have to increase their pricing because their inventory could spend months sitting on their lot. Generally speaking, dealerships may have millions of dollars worth of inventory on their lot, and most (if not all) of that inventory is actually owned by a bank or finance company. The dealers often finance their inventory through something called floorplan financing–a type of short-term loan that is usually paid off in a few months. This is why dealerships try to sell their inventory as quickly as possible. This gives extra incentive to dealerships to use high-pressure sales tactics.
